He served as Chairman of the Investor Advisory Committee for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and as a member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Standing Advisory Group. Schacht was a Trustee on the IFRS Foundation and on the European Commission's Expert Group on Corporate Bond Market Liquidity based in Brussels.
